Mental Health Research and Implementation

Kenya faces a significant mental health burden with limited resources and substantial treatment gaps, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas. Recent disruptions to international mental health research funding create space for innovative, locally-led approaches that reflect cultural understandings of mental wellness. Our organization has developed expertise in culturally-adapted mental health interventions, integration of mental health services into primary care, community-based psychosocial support models, and digital mental health solutions. We are actively researching depression, anxiety, trauma-related disorders, substance use, and the mental health impacts of climate change and economic stress. Our team includes clinical psychologists, psychiatric nurses, social workers, community health workers, and peer support specialists. We seek partnerships with academic institutions, implementation science centers, technology developers, and funding organizations interested in scalable, sustainable mental health solutions. Our research approach combines rigorous evaluation with participatory methods that involve service users, families, and communities in all stages of research. We offer opportunities to test interventions in diverse settings, access to longitudinal data on mental health trends, connections with policy makers at county and national levels, and pathways for research translation into practice. Collaborators will benefit from our deep community relationships, ethical oversight, and commitment to reducing mental health disparities through evidence-based innovation.
